A Wrinkle in time - quirky story with intriguing characters but a weak plot

I found "A Wrinkle in Time" to be quite tedious. I found the theme and the characters somewhat intriguing but the plot was just not there. Nothing all that compelling happens. Whatever happens doesn't seem convincing or particularly appealing.
